An alert bank teller saved a client some money.
The Eureka Police are seeking two men suspected in three check forgery cases, and the suspects wouldn’t have been stopped without a bank teller becoming suspicious, Lt. David Wilson said.
The victim was alerted to unusual activity on his account when a U.S. Bank teller called him when one of the suspects attempted to cash a $200 check at the bank branch inside the Schnucks store at 245 E. Fifth St. in Eureka. The victim verified that he did not write the check, Wilson said.
“The teller confronted the suspect about cashing the check and the suspect left,” Wilson said.
That was the third check the suspects allegedly had forged, Wilson said.
The incidents occurred between Feb. 8 and Feb. 10, according to Eureka Police reports.
The first instance happened Feb. 8 when one of the suspects cashed a $190 check at the U.S. Bank at 10 Hilltop Village Center Drive in Eureka, Wilson said.
Then another suspect also cashed a $200 check Feb. 10 at the U.S. Bank inside the Eureka Schnucks before the suspect from the Feb. 8 incident returned that same day to cash a check for the same amount, Wilson said.
