Eureka Police are searching for a 31-year-old Las Vegas man and 40-year-old Boulder City, Neb., woman who used another woman’s identity to purchase an RV trailer from Blue Compass RV, 18155 Old Hwy. 66, in Eureka, Capt. Michael Werges said.

The man and woman in August bought a 2025 Forest River RV Cherokee trailer, which was worth $39,444. The man initially tried to use his Nevada driver’s license to secure a loan for the trailer, but it was denied, the report said.

The man then used a woman’s driver’s license from California. He told the salesman the woman was his aunt, and the loan was approved, according to the report.

After the loan was approved, the man wrote a check for $1,190.68 to cover the down payment, the report said.

In October, the woman whose information was used to buy the trailer called Blue Compass to tell the company she had not approved of her information to be used to buy the trailer. It also was discovered that the check used to make the down payment was written from an account that was closed in November, according to the report.

On Nov. 18, a detective with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office in Greenfield, Ind., called Eureka Police to inform them that the trailer was located at an area campground. Along with the trailer, Hancock County deputies recovered stolen vehicles at the campsite, and the deputies provided Eureka Police with pictures of the two people who had purchased the trailer in Eureka, the report said.

The campsite was allegedly rented with a stolen credit card, according to the report.

As of Dec. 9, Eureka Police had not located the man and woman suspected of purchasing the trailer with fraudulent information. Eureka Police are seeking charges against the man and woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for fraud, Werges said.
