Eureka Police are investigating the theft of a trailer from behind a home in the 300 block of North Central Avenue. The trailer was stolen between 8-9 p.m. Aug. 13 but was recovered along Second Street less than 24 hours later, police reported.
The victim, a 62-year-old Eureka man, said the 2008 Doolittle enclosed trailer did not have a lock on its hitch when it was stolen, the report said.
The trailer was recovered at about 7 a.m. Aug. 14 when police were called to Second Street about a trailer that was partially blocking the road after part of the trailer rolled into a ditch. It appeared the trailer had come off the hitch of a vehicle that was used to steal the trailer, according to the report.
A padlock was still on the trailer door, and nothing was reported missing from it, Capt. David Wilson said.
As of Monday (Aug. 31), no suspects had been identified, he said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
