Eureka Police patch

Eureka Police are seeking a dark-colored, four-door sedan after someone driving the car fled from an officer who responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the area around Hickory Hill Drive. A man reported a wallet was stolen from his car parked in the same subdivision on the same day the officer chased away the suspicious vehicle, police reported.

At about 2:25 a.m. June 17, an officer was sent to the subdivision after someone wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt was seen in the area getting into a car with one headlight out. At least two other people already were in the car, the report said.

The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver continued through the subdivision streets to avoid the police cruiser. The driver eventually got out of the subdivision onto north on Hwy. 109 headed toward I-44. On Hwy. 109, the driver allegedly swerved from one lane to the other before getting onto westbound I-44, according to the report.

The officer did not pursue the car on the interstate. However, the car got off westbound I-44 at the Six Flags Road exit and then got back on the interstate headed east, Eureka Police reported.

At about 5 a.m. that day, a 36-year-old Eureka man who lives in the 600 block of Williams Drive, which is in the same subdivision, called police to report his wallet was stolen. He said the wallet, valued at about $50, was in a 2015 Dodge Dart, which he thought was locked, according to the report.

As of June 30, the wallet had not been recovered, and the people in the dark sedan had not been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the car or the theft to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
