Eureka Police arrested a 57-year-old Rolla woman after allegedly finding pill capsules and a white crystal-like substance in her purse. The officers allegedly found the suspected drugs after initially being called to the Dollar Tree store, 151 Eureka Towne Center Drive, for a suspected shoplifting, police reported.
Officers were called to the store at about 8:50 p.m. Dec. 28 because an employee believed two men were trying to steal merchandise. An officer stopped a 63-year-old Rolla man in the store, and the man allegedly admitted to taking candy and Matchbox cars, the report said.
The man allegedly had candy, Matchbox cars, sunglasses and migraine medicine in his pocket. The items were worth $14, according to the report.
Another officer found a 53-year-old Rolla man, who was in the store with the other man, in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado outside of the store. The man in the pickup told the officer he didn’t not steal anything, and he said the officer could search the Silverado, the report said.
When the man got out of the pickup, the officer allegedly saw empty pill capsules on the passenger’s side seat. The officer then searched the rest of the pickup, including a purse belonging to a woman who was in the driver’s seat, according to the report.
The woman and man inside the store were both arrested and taken to the Police Station, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Michael Werges said.
The man arrested inside the store was booked and given a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged stealing, Werges said.
He also said as of Jan. 11, Eureka Police were not seeking any charges against the man who was in the pickup’s passenger seat.
