Eureka Police arrested a 31-year-old man and 52-year-old woman, both of Sullivan, for alleged drug possession following a traffic stop. An officer stopped the car the two were traveling in due to warrants being attached to the license plate, police reported.
An officer at about 1:40 p.m. March 7 saw a 2006 Ford Fusion enter the MotoMart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road, and followed the car as it went to the McDonald’s restaurant drive-thru line to check the Fusion’s license plate. The officer learned the registered owner, which was the Sullivan man, had a revoked driver’s license, several felony warrants and a caution code that said he had a history of violent tendencies, the report said.
The officer followed the car after it left the parking lot and traveled on Fox Creek Road. The officer then turned on his vehicle’s lights and stopped the car, according to the report.
The woman was driving the Fusion, which also had two dogs in the back seat. Neither the woman nor man could provide identification, but they told the officer their names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers, the report said.
The officer learned the woman also had a revoked driver’s license, and confirmed the man was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for outstanding warrants. The two were arrested, and an officer allegedly found a capsule pill in the man’s pocket, according to the report.
The man allegedly said he found the pill in the McDonald’s restaurant, and he had put it into his pocket to throw it away later, the report said.
After the woman was asked to remove the dogs from the car, an officer searched the Fusion. The officer saw the panel around the stereo system was loose, and when he looked behind the panel, he allegedly found a bag that contained several pills similar to the one in the man’s pocket and another bag containing a white crystal-like substance, according to the report.
After the items were found, the man allegedly said, “Don’t charge her with that, charge me. It’s mine,” the report said.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant. The woman was released at the scene with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for allegedly driving with a revoked license, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Michael Werges said.
