Eureka Police arrested a 49-year-old Fenton man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was allegedly found asleep in a running car that was parked in a lot near a pond at the intersection of Meramec Boulevard and Shaw Drive, police reported.

Officers were called at about 4:40 p.m. Sept. 1 after the man was seen apparently sleeping in a 2015 Honda Accord. When officers arrive, they woke the man up, and he appeared to be intoxicated, the report said.

The man told police he was in Eureka visiting his parents. He allegedly apologized and said he had been drinking too much to drive, according to the report.

The man refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. An officer allegedly found an empty small bottle of Fireball whisky and a bottle of Sailor Jerry’s whisky, which was approximately half empty, inside the car, the report said.

He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver. The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for suspicion of DWI, Capt. Michael Werges said.
