Eureka Police arrested a 42-year-old Hillsboro man after allegedly finding illegal drugs in a car he was driving. The officer stopped the 2001 Saturn SL the man was driving due to the man being wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on active warrants, the police reported.

The officer noticed the man at about 3:30 a.m. May 23 when he passed the Saturn in the QuikTrip gas station parking lot, 290 E. Fourth St. When the officer drove by the car, he thought the man was trying to hide behind the Saturn, the report said.

The officer than checked the car’s license plate and discovered the man was wanted on the warrant, according to the report.

The officer followed the Saturn onto Hwy. 109, where the car allegedly crossed the center line. The officer then stopped the car, the report said.

The man was arrested for the warrant. When the officer searched the car, he allegedly found a pipe and a bag containing a crystal-like substance under the driver’s seat, according to the report.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and transported to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, the report said.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
