Eureka Police arrested a 49-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, both from Granite City, Ill., following a traffic stop on Hwy. 109. The woman was allegedly found with three bags that appeared to contain an illegal substance, and the man was wanted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant, police reported.
At about 7:30 a.m. June 18, an officer saw the man driving a 1997 Ford F-100 that had an expired license plate on Hwy. 109. The officer stopped the pickup near Elk Run Drive, the report said.
The pickup’s steering column was damaged and the engine was running without a key. Because of the damage in the pickup, the officer asked to search the F-100 after arresting the man on the warrant, according to the report.
When the woman got out of the pickup, a bag allegedly fell out of her shirt. The woman then adjusted her shirt and two more bags fell out, the report said.
The woman was arrested because the bags appeared to contain illegal drugs, according to the report.
The man and woman were taken to the Police Station. The man was then transported to the St. Louis County Jail, and the woman was released pending the application for a warrant, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Chief Michael Werges said.
