A 47-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after an accident on Hwy. 109 near East Fourth Street. The man was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer and hit a woman who was driving a 2022 Kia Soul from behind, Eureka Police reported.

Neither driver was injured, and neither the SUV nor car had minor damage, according to the report.

Police were called at about 7:20 a.m. Nov. 25 to respond to the crash. The man told officers he was going to work, and he had not drank alcohol since 10 p.m. Nov. 24, the report said.

The man refused to perform field sobriety tests because he recently had foot surgery. He also allegedly said he felt hungover, according to the report.

Because the man appeared to be intoxicated, he was arrested and taken to the police station. The man was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
