man in handcuffs

A 35-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following an accident in the parking lot outside the White Castle restaurant, 78 Hilltop Village Center Drive, in Eureka. No one was injured in the accident and only the car was damaged, Eureka Police reported.

The suspect allegedly registered a .131 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said. In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal blood-alcohol content limit to drive.

At about 9:45 p.m. May 12, Eureka Police got a call that someone driving a 2015 Nissan Altima

reportedly drove off the road, went down a hill and landed in the restaurant’s parking lot. The Eureka man reportedly was driving the car, and a 36-year-old Lonedell woman was a passenger, the report said.

The two allegedly said they had drunk alcohol at the nearby JP’s Sports Bar and Grill, 95 Hilltop Village Center Drive, before the accident. The woman also allegedly said, “If anyone is going to jail, I can go to jail,” according to the report.

The man allegedly told the officer he pulled out a little fast when leaving JP’s. The officers said the man appeared intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests, the report said.

He was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver. The suspect was issued summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and careless and imprudent driving, Lt. Michael Werges said.
