A 36-year-old Eureka man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he was stopped for driving without his car’s headlights on. He is considered an aggravated offender because he has been convicted of at least four prior DWI charges, Eureka Police reported.
Officers at about 1:40 a.m. Juen 6 saw the man driving a 2017 Mazda west on Fifth Street without his lights on. The officers turned on their cruiser’s lights and siren to pull the man over, and he pulled into a parking space outside of Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, the report said.
The driver appeared to be intoxicated and allegedly struggled to provide identification. When he did, he gave the officers an identification card, and the officers learned his driver’s license had been revoked and he was not allowed to drive a vehicle that didn’t have an ignition interlock device, according to the report.
The Mazda did not have a device, the report said.
The man allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and later released to a sober driver, according to the report.
Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony DWI, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
