Eureka Police patch

A 41-year-old Eureka man was arrested after a suspected illegal substance was found in a room he was staying in at the America’s Best Inn hotel, 1725 W. Fifth St., Eureka Police reported.

Officers were called at about 2:40 p.m. Nov. 30 because the man was acting strange outside of the hotel. Employees told officers he was pointing at birds and jumping into puddles, the report said.

The man had been told he needed to leave his room because he no longer could pay the rent, according to the report.

When officers arrived, they took him to the room he had been renting to retrieve his belongings. On the way to the room, the man allegedly was arguing with an unseen person and agreeing with statements he was making to himself, the report said.

When they arrived at the room, officers allegedly saw a bag containing a crystal-like substance, a rolled-up dollar bill with residue and a jar with green straws in it. The man was arrested and taken to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for evaluation, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Capt. Michael Werges said.
