Eureka Police patch

A 51-year-old Eureka man was arrested after he was allegedly found with suspected illegal drugs following a traffic stop. The man was stopped because when officers checked his license plate, they learned he was wanted on an active warrant, Eureka Police said.

Officers at about 1 p.m. Feb. 8 saw a 1999 GMC Sierra parked outside the MotoMart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road, and saw the man enter the pickup after they checked its license plates. The officers stopped the man near the intersection of West Fifth Street and Six Flags Road, according to the report.

The officers arrested the man on the active warrant, the report said.

An officer allegedly found a bag containing what appeared to be mushrooms and another bag with an unknown brown powdery substance. The man told the officers he believed the mushrooms were marijuana and he got them from a friend, and he said the brown powder was marijuana extract, according to the report.

An officer then searched the pickup and allegedly found a pill bottle with a white crystal-like substance and another bag with mushrooms. The man said the substance in the pill bottle was Hawaiian salt, which he said looks like methamphetamine, the report said.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and then transferred to another agency where he was wanted on the warrant, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
