Eureka family displaced after house fire, cat dies in blaze

A Eureka family is displaced after their house in the 600 block of Grandview Ridge Court became engulfed in flames on Nov. 21.

A Eureka family is left displaced after a fire erupted in their house late on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The Eureka Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 600 block of Grandview Ridge Court in the Legends subdivision at about 11:55 p.m., Deputy Chief William Stamberger said. The two-story house was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, he said.

Geoff and Breanna Biderman managed to escape the fire with their two young children, three cats, and two dogs. One cat died in the blaze, according to a GoFundMe page set up in support of the family.

The three cats are undergoing medical treatment at a local animal hospital.

The family is seeking assistance in paying for the medical treatments along with paying for new clothing, toiletries, and other essentials through the GoFundMe called “Support the Biderman Family After House Fire.”

Stamberger said the family was able to escape the house fire with only the clothes they had on.

“The house will most likely be a total loss,” Stamberger said. “One neighbor said they heard something, went outside and saw that the garage had caught fire first and then it started to go into the house. It appears that the possible origin of the fire could be the garage.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Stamberger said. Several neighboring houses received exposure damage due to the fire, including melted siding.

Stamberger said the last fire crews left the scene at about 4 a.m. today, Nov. 22.

Metro-West, High Ridge, Pacific and Fenton fire protection districts assisted with the fire.
