Eureka Police are investigating a burglary at Scoreboard Automotive Sales and Leasing, 1375 W. Fifth St. The auto dealership’s front glass door was shattered and a safe was damaged in the burglary, police reported.
The cost to repair the door and safe was estimated at $2,250, Eureka Police reported.
A Eureka Police officer saw the broken door at about 3:40 a.m. Dec. 11 and then two officers searched the building and determined no one was inside the business. Surveillance video showed at least two people inside the business at about 12:15 a.m. that day. It also appeared that at least three other people were outside the building, the report said.
The two people seen inside the business were there for about one minute, when they appeared to try to get into a locked office but couldn’t and then got into another office where the safe was located and tried unsuccessfully to open it, according to the report.
Investigators believe the suspects may have used a silver 2021 Nissan Altima during the burglary because the car was seen in other surrounding surveillance video systems, as well as by the city’s Flock license plate-reading camera system near the auto dealership, Eureka Police reported.
As of Dec. 19, no one in the video had been identified, and the owner of the Altima had not been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
