The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a 42-year-old St. Louis man for allegedly attempting to cash an altered check for $2,300 at the Midwest BankCentre, 300 S. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City, according to court documents.
Eric Kruse was arrested on May 28. As of May 29, he was being held on a $3,000 surety-bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him on Feb. 3 with forgery, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, according to court documents.
Kruse allegedly attempted to cash the check at about 12:15 p.m. Sept. 13, 2024, at the bank. His name was printed on the front of the check, and he signed the back, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.
Crystal City Police contacted the woman whose checking account the funds were attempted to be withdrawn from, and she said she did not give Kruse the check. She also said the information on the check had been altered, the report said.
