No one was injured and there was only minor damage after an electrical fire started in the garage of a house in the Fenton area, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said. Firefighters were dispatched at 9:46 a.m. Nov. 25 to a home on Della Drive in the Murphy area.
“There were two adult homeowners plus children and pets home at the time,” Barton said. “They woke up to the smell of smoke and they were able to see that there was quite a bit of smoke in their garage so they evacuated the residence prior to our arrival.”
The fire was under control at 10:19 a.m. and all units left the scene by 11:46 a.m.
No one was injured as a result of the fire, Barton said.
Barton said the fire was ruled accidental.
“We believe it was overloaded wiring or a wiring issue,” he said. “The electrical portion of the fire was located pretty quickly. There was not really a lot of visible damage. We had to pull some ceiling down to get to the wire. There was some burning insulation in the attic area that we had to remove.”
Barton said the electricity to the house was shut off but the house is still habitable.
“It might be a longer period of time before they’re able to get their power turned back on due to the nature of the fire,” he said. “The structure is intact and the contents of the home were unaffected by the fire. They could be displaced for a period of time until repairs can be made.”
Saline Valley and Fenton fire protection districts helped at the scene.
