Eureka Police are investigating the theft of two electric bicycles and a bike rack from a Jeep parked at the St. Louis West Historic Route 66 KOA Holiday campground, 18475 Old Hwy. 66. Altogether the bikes and rack were valued at $5,000, police reported.
A 68-year-old Massachusetts man told police officers he had a brown-and-black Trek Townie Go and a blue Trek Cruiser Go secured in the bike rack attached to his Jeep. He said the bicycles and rack were on the rear of his vehicle when he went to sleep just after midnight on May 8, but they were gone when he woke up at about 9 a.m. that day, the report said.
Another camper said his dog started barking at about 12:45 a.m., but he did not see anyone near the Jeep, according to the report.
As of May 22, neither of the bikes nor the rack had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges. He asks anyone with information about the theft to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
