Arnold Police arrested an East St. Louis man and woman, both 27, Sunday evening (Aug. 28) following a short police pursuit that ended at I-55 and Hwy. 141. At about 4:55 p.m., Arnold Police got a call from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office about someone driving a van in the area who appeared intoxicated, and a short time later, an officer spotted the vehicle near the 7-Eleven store on the West Outer Road, Detective Lt. James Jones said.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but it didn’t immediately pull over. About five minutes later, though, the driver of the van got off I-55 at Hwy. 141 and stopped, Jones said.

He said several police vehicles responded to the chase and were there when the stop was made. Jones also said it’s likely one or more of the officers had guns drawn as they approached the vehicle, as reported on social media.

Jones said the man, who was already wanted in St. Louis County on outstanding warrants for traffic violations, was arrested for driving with a revoked license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and various traffic violations.

Two women were inside the vehicle, a Chevrolet Venture van, and one of them was wanted in St. Louis County on a misdemeanor warrant, so she, too, was arrested, Jones said.

The man and woman were booked and held for St. Louis County Police.

Arnold Police will seek felony charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office because he has previous convictions for driving with a revoked or suspended license, Jones said.
