The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 27-year-old East St. Louis, Ill., man who allegedly stole merchandise from the Walmart department store, 2700 Ridge Point Drive, in High Ridge. The Sheriff’s Office has applied for a stealing charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Capt. Matt Moore said.
On Jan. 23, the man allegedly pushed a shopping cart filled with merchandise out of the store without paying. He was seen in surveillance video loading the items into a Hyundai Tucson that he drove away from the store, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office used surveillance video and Flock license-plate reading cameras to learn the SUV was rented from Enterprise Rental. The woman that the company said rented the Tucson allegedly told investigators the man driving SUV was her boyfriend, according to the report.
A a picture of the woman’s boyfriend matched the man seen in the surveillance video of the alleged theft, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office does not report an approximate value of stolen items.
Moore said as of Jan. 30, the man had not been located. He asks anyone with information about the theft or the man to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
