Arnold Police issued at 56-year-old Dupo, Ill., man a summons after he allegedly threatened to harm an Arnold man following an apparent road-rage incident on Jeffco Boulevard. The incident happened at about 2:35 p.m. May 13, Arnold Police reported.
It is not known what led to the dispute, Capt. Rich Shular said.
However, the alleged victim told police the Illinois man slammed on his brakes while the two were driving on Jeffco Boulevard and then the Illinois man started to yell and make obscene hand gestures at him. The Arnold man said he pulled off the road into a parking lot, and the suspect followed him, the report said.
The Illinois man reportedly got out of his car, with a walking stick in his hand, and started to yell at the Arnold man. The Arnold man recorded the encounter with his cell phone, and the recording allegedly showed the suspect yelling at him and threatening to get a gun, according to the report.
The Illinois man also allegedly tried to open the alleged victim’s car door, but the Arnold man was able to drive away. However, when the Illinois got back into his car and started to drive away on Jeffco Boulevard, the Arnold man pulled behind him and started to follow him, the report said.
The suspect then pulled into another parking lot, and both men got of their cars and continued to argue before officers arrived and separated the two. After viewing the recording, an officer issued the Dupo, Ill., man a summons to appear in Arnold Municipal Court to face a charge of fourth-degree assault, Shular said.
