The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at a barn outside a home in the 5000 block of Glade Chapel Road north of Hillsboro. The burglary occurred at about 6:20 a.m. May 21, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The victim told the Sheriff’s Office he heard a loud boom near his barn, which he uses as a workshop. When he went to see what happened, the victim said he saw an older model, gray pickup with a crane or winch in the bed back up to the barn and rip the door off the building, the report said.

The victim confronted the driver, who drove away with the door still attached to the crane. The culprit headed west on Glade Chapel Road, according to the report.

The victim said he has poor eyesight and couldn’t identify the driver. The victim also said a toolbox containing various tools was stolen from his property. The box and tools were valued at about $500, and the damage to the barn was estimated at $300, the report said.

Deputies found tools and debris on Glade Chapel Road leading to the 5900 block, where the barn door was found. As of May 28, the driver of the pickup had not been identified, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
