A recreational vehicle being used as a primary residence at the 10000 block of Hawks Road in Dittmer was destroyed by a fire on Nov. 7.
Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Chief Mick Fischer said the two adults and the child who lived there were not home at the time of the fire. Fire crews were dispatched at 12:46 a.m.
The family had one cat, which was not found in the RV, Fischer said.
“The RV was 100 percent (engulfed in flames) when crews arrived,” he said. “The family lost everything. They didn’t have insurance.”
The fire was extinguished at 1:13 a.m., Fischer said. The cause of the fire was ruled undetermined, but accidental, he said.
“When it gets to that point, it’s really hard to locate the source of the fire, but (the cause) was ruled undetermined and accidental,” Fischer said.
The St. Clair, High Ridge and Pacific fire protection districts assisted with the fire, Fischer said, along with the Big River Ambulance District. The Red Cross, Peacy Pantry and Woodard Cleaning & Restoration are all helping the family, Fischer said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page, asking for assistance. To support the family, go to gofundme.com and search “We Lost Everything in a House Fire – Please Help Us Rebuild.”
