A camper on private property in Dittmer was left uninhabitable after an April 12 brush fire.

Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Chief Mick Fischer said crews arrived at the 600 block of East Woodland Trail Drive at 5:07 p.m. and left by 5:38 p.m.

The property owner was burning leaves nearby when the fire quickly grew out of control, Fischer said.

He said no one was in the camper at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

“(Crews) found a small area of brush with a camper on fire,” Fischer said. “I believe it was a small, pop-up camper. It was the owner’s camper on his property.”

Fischer said current drought-like conditions are unsuitable for burning leaves or other materials. He cautioned those doing controlled burns to be cognizant of weather conditions.
