Joseph Dean Declue, 31, of Fenton, a prior offender, recently was sentenced to eight years in prison for receiving stolen property, as well as to two seven-year terms for felony drug charges and two five-year terms, one for assaulting a law enforcement officer and the other for driving with a revoked license, according to court records.
However, those terms are to be served concurrent, or at the same time. In addition, those terms are to be served concurrent with other terms he previously was sentenced to, court papers show.
Declue, formerly of Hillsboro, currently is serving 10 years in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre, according to the Missouri Department of Corrections.
On Feb. 6, 2014, Declue left a Ford F-350 pickup that had been stolen from a Barnhart man at the Siesta Manor Mobile Home Park in Fenton. Declue admitted to receiving the pickup, along with another one, a Ford F-250 stolen from an Arnold man, the probable-cause statement said.
In addition, Declue said he knew the pickups were stolen, adding that he had stored items he removed from the pickups at a home in the 4800 block of West Rock Creek Road in High Ridge, where Jefferson County deputies recovered them, according to the report.
Declue was arrested Feb. 6, 2014, after fleeing from law enforcement officers in the stolen Ford F-250, the report said.
When Declue was arrested, he was found with methamphetamine, as well as lithium, which he intended to use to make meth, the probable-cause statement said.
On Jan. 12, 2014, a Jefferson County deputy stopped Declue, who was driving with a suspended license, but he refused to get out of the SUV, a 2004 Ford Explorer, according to the report.
After stopping, Declue put the SUV back into drive, so the deputy reached into the driver’s-side window, trying to put the vehicle back into park, but Declue accelerated, dragging the deputy about 20 or 30 feet before he was able to get free. Then, Declue fled the scene.
The deputy’s back was injured, and he was treated at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, the report said.
Declue pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a chemical with the intent to make a controlled substance, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and driving while revoked, all felonies, and on March 20, Jefferson County Div. 1 Circuit Judge Robert G. Wilkins sentenced him to the eight-year, the two seven-year and the two five-year terms.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorneys Catherine M. Robertson and Trisha C. Stefanski handled the cases.
Declue previously was sentenced to numerous prison terms, ranging from three to five years, most of them to be served concurrently. However, one five-year term is to be served consecutively to another five-year term, so he is serving 10 years in prison.
He was sentenced in August 2013 to five years for violence against a Department of Corrections employee or inmate tied to an October 2012 incident in Randolph County, court papers show.
That term is to be served consecutive to a five-year term he was sentenced to in August 2012 for a felony drug charge stemming from a February 2008 incident in Ste. Genevieve County.
Declue also was sentenced in August 2012 to four years for resisting arrest tied to the February 2008 incident, according to court records.
In addition, Declue was sentenced in June 2012 to four three-year terms for passing bad checks between March 2006 and July 2006, the report said.
