A De Soto teen was seriously hurt Sunday evening (Sept. 3) in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. V south of Mount Olive in the De Soto area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
At 6:24 p.m., Paisley R. Thompson, 16, of De Soto was driving a 2005 Mazda 6 south on Hwy. V and partially crossed into the northbound lane and even though a driver of a northbound 2015 Fiat 500 tried to steer right and avoid a collision, the front left of the Mazda struck the rear driver’s side of the Fiat, the report said.
Then, the Mazda skidded partially off the west side of the road before Thompson overcorrected and the Mazda returned to the road and then went off the east side of the road and down an embankment, where it struck a rock bluff, ejecting Thompson, according to the report.
Andrea L. Gipson, 37, of De Soto was driving the Fiat. No injuries were reported for her.
Thompson was taken by helicopter to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where she was discharged the next day, a hospital spokesperson said today (Sept. 5).
Thompson was not wearing a seat belt, and Gipson was wearing one, the patrol reported.
The Mazda was extensively damaged and the Fiat had minor damage, the report said.
