De Soto Rural Fire Protection District personnel rescued a dog that got stuck in a car engine compartment. The district got a call about the dog at 9 a.m. May 14 from a resident on Tracy Lane off Flucom Road in the De Soto area, Assistant Chief Tom Fitzgerald reported.
“The guys rescued a dog that chased a squirrel into the engine compartment of an automobile,” he said. “They were able to get the dog out – no damage to the vehicle.”
Fitzgerald said he did not have the name of the dog’s owners, but the family’s grandmother saw the dog, Mia, get stuck in the vehicle.
“She had tried freeing the dog but couldn’t do it and called it in,” he said.
Lt. Wade Emmons and firefighter Mason Kirkiewicz rescued the dog.
“It took about 20 minutes or so,” Fitzgerald said. “They had to remove the passenger-side front wheel. One guy crawled underneath and the other reached through the wheel to get the dog out.”
