de soto police car

De Soto Police are seeking a teen who reportedly carjacked a 1995 yellow Ford Mustang by threatening the use of Mace the night of Feb. 20 on the Hardee’s restaurant parking lot, 12974 Hwy. 21, De Soto.

The victim did not report the car theft to police until law enforcement officers investigating its involvement in a hit-and-run accident traced the license plate to the victim’s address in De Soto, Detective Rick Draper said today (Feb. 24).

He said he did not as yet have any details on the hit-and-run accident, which was reported to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Draper said the Mustang’s owner, a 38-year-old woman, told police Monday (Feb. 23) the car was stolen around 9:55 p.m. Feb. 20.

“When officers came to the house of the person thought to be involved in the hit-and-run, the owner said it had been stolen,” Draper said. “I do not have a reason why it had not been reported. The suspect entered the vehicle and ordered a passenger out. The witness said he displayed Mace. The driver was not in the car and the keys had been left in. The 16-year-old male passenger was ordered out.”

Draper said the car’s estimated value is $2,500.

The suspect is known to police and the investigation is continuing, Draper said.
