Cameron S. Shores, 43, of De Soto has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after violating the terms of his probation. He had been placed on five years’ probation after pleading guilty to drug charges in August 2018, according to court documents.
On Oct. 21, Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor J. Melenbrink revoked Shores’ probation and executed the two 10-year prison terms he previously received, with the sentences to be served consecutively for a total of 20 years, court papers show.
As of Oct. 24, Shores was being held at the District 15 Probation and Parole facility in Hillsboro, according to the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Assistant prosecuting attorney Lindsay E. Whalen handled the case.
In August 2018, Shores, a persistent offender, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and delivery of a controlled substance, a class C felony. Melenbrink sentenced Shores to 10 years in prison for both offenses, but the sentences were suspended and he was placed on five years’ probation, court records said.
The drug charges stemmed from a June 2017 arrest at an apartment building in the 800 block of Vine Street in Festus. A search warrant was executed at the apartment because of reported drug dealing, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Shores was alone when the apartment was searched, and investigators found a 9mm Taurus gun, powder residue that tested positive for methamphetamine in the false bottom of an Ajax bleach can, a glass smoking pipe that had residue that tested positive for meth and multiple packages labeled “THC Medical Cannabis,” the report said.
Shores told investigators the pipe belonged to him, but the gun and THC packages belonged to other people. He also said he had used the THC packages, according to the report.
Shores was on probation at the time, after pleading guilty in April 2007 to felony drug possession and resisting arrest in Jefferson County and after pleading guilty in April 2014 to felony drug possession with the intent to sell, drug possession and unlawful possession of a firearm in St. Louis County, court records said.
