Mark Casteel, 36, of De Soto has been charged with two felonies for allegedly stabbing a man during a road-rage incident. The alleged assault occurred Feb. 28 near Valle Lake in Valles Mines south of De Soto, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Casteel has been charged with first-degree assault, a class A felony punishable by 10 to 30 years or life in prison, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by no less than three years in prison. He was being held Monday (March 2) in the Jefferson County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond, the Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 7:40 p.m. Feb. 28, Casteel was driving a Toyota Corolla, with a male passenger inside, near the intersection of Roberts Drive and Spring Drive. In the meantime, a 44-year-old De Soto man was riding a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle, with a female passenger on it, in the area. Casteel and the victim reportedly stopped near the intersection and got into a shouting match, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Then, Casteel got out of his car and allegedly pushed the 44-year-old man, the woman and the ATV over and hit the 44-year-old man in the face repeatedly and stabbed him in the neck. The victim was airlifted to an area hospital and was in stable but serious condition on Sunday afternoon (March 1), the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Sheriff’s Office deputies found Casteel later that night and arrested him at a home in the 12600 block of Hyfield Road in De Soto, according to the report.
