A 35-year-old Washington County man was shot in the chest this afternoon (May 12) outside a home in the 400 block of Hill Side Road the De Soto area, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The victim was “conscious and alert” when he was transported to an area hospital, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.
A 36-year-old man who lives at the home on Hill Side Drive is suspected of shooting the victim, the report said.
Arnhart said the two men know each other and were arguing, allegedly about a chainsaw that had been used as collateral for a loan.
After the argument, the victim left, but returned a short time later with a gun, the report said.
The De Soto-area man was inside the home and saw the victim outside with a gun, so the suspect allegedly got a gun and fired two rounds through a window, and one of them struck the victim in the chest, according to the report.
After the victim was shot, he got inside a vehicle parked outside the home, and the suspect, as well as a woman who lives at the De Soto-area home, went to the vehicle to help the victim, the report said.
The woman called 911, Arnhart said.
As of 4:15 p.m. today, there were no arrests, Arnhart said.
