This home on Coon Club Road west of De Soto, which only was being used for storage, was destroyed by fire.

An old house in the 13000 block of Coon Club Road west of De Soto was destroyed by fire Feb. 28. No one was living in the house, which was used for storage purposes, said Chief Tom Fitzgerald of the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.

He said the district got a call at 12:35 p.m. about the blaze.

“It was totally engulfed in flames when we got there,” Fitzgerald said. “It was totally destroyed.”

The cause appeared to be stray embers, he said.

“They were clearing land and some of the embers from a burn pile got to it,” Fitzgerald said.

He said firefighters remained on the scene for about two hours.

The De Soto Fire Department and the Hillsboro and Potosi fire protection districts, as well as the Valle Ambulance District, helped with the call.
