A Crystal City man who lives in the 100 block of Taylor Avenue had to call police when he couldn’t wake a man sitting in his driveway in a vehicle with the engine running.
Police responded at 11:45 a.m. Monday (March 6) and found an unresponsive 47-year-old Granite City, Ill., man sitting in a 1998 tan Chevy Silverado.
“He had the vehicle in drive with his foot on the brake,” Crystal City Police Capt. Mike Pruneau said. “The officer sees two bags of meth, a loaded syringe and a nearly empty fifth of Wild Turkey American Honey whisky on his lap.
“The officer opens the door, puts the vehicle in park and has the guy get out. He couldn’t hardly stand. He was pretty incoherent.”
The man refused a field sobriety test. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, open container, no insurance and no valid license.
He was taken to Crystal City Jail and later released pending application for warrants. His vehicle was impounded.
