Cedar Hill native Nicholas Burton Reimler, 28, is waiting for a court date after being charged with two misdemeanors related to his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, his attorney, Ethan B. Corlija, said.

Reimler, who now lives in south St. Louis County, was charged Feb. 19 with violent entry or disorderly conduct and entry into a restricted building or grounds in connection with the riot.

The charges were filed in the federal court in Washington, D.C., but Reimler made his first appearance on Feb. 19 by video at the federal court in St. Louis. The next hearing in the case will be held in Washington, D.C., but as of Monday, a date had not been set.

Corlija said his client is on pretrial release ahead of his next court date.

Reimler could face up to one year in jail for the violent entry charge and six months for the charge of entering a restricted building.

Corlija also said the violent entry charge is misleading

“His (Reimler’s) alleged entry into the building is that he was there,” Corlija said. “He walked around the building. There were photos and pictures that were taken, and they believe they have evidence of that. The violent entry is misleading. People read (violent entry) and say, ‘He must have broken into the place or did something bad to get in the Capitol.’ That is absolutely not what happened. It is just the title of the code section.”

Reimler’s post on social media platforms helped federal officers discover his alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

He also was recorded on surveillance video inside the Capitol, according to the charging documents that were released March 18.

Friends alerted authorities to Reimler's posts on Snapchat and Facebook, and they identified Reimler in photos the FBI released showing actions inside the Capitol, charging documents said.

Reimler reportedly is seen in surveillance video entering and leaving the Capitol wearing a green hat, a blue and white jacket and a white flag with the word “TRUMP” on it while holding up a cell phone. Investigators found pictures of Reimler wearing what appears to be the same jacket and hat on his Facebook page, the report said.

Reimler’s Snapchat account also allegedly had posts showing the inside of the Capitol with rioters in the hallways with text that read, “TOP OF THE US CAPITOL DOME,” and, “Lol what’s going on,” according to the charging documents.

Reimler’s Facebook page had messages posted before Jan. 6 supporting former President Donald Trump, as well as ones critical of President Joe Biden and other Democrats.

On Dec. 30, 2020, Reimler reposted a tweet from Trump that said, “JANUARY SIXTH, SEE YOU IN DC!” In the comments on that post, Reimler said he was driving to Washington, D.C., with two guys from work.

Reimler’s Facebook profile says he is a technical services manager, and that he studied civil and environmental engineering at the University of Missouri in Columbia. The profile also says he attended Northwest High School.

Reimler was listed as living in Cedar Hill in his only other public court record in Missouri, which was related to a Dec. 21, 2014, DWI charge after he reportedly was caught speeding at about 78 mph on I-55 in Jefferson County, according to court records.

“He is a solid good citizen,” Corlija said of Reimler. “He respects law and order. He is looking forward and hopeful to get this resolved so he can move on with his life and career.”
