Eureka Police are investigating damage to a coin machine, a coin-operated detergent machine and a door at the Holiday Inn Six Flags, 4901 Six Flags Road. In addition, money was stolen from the coin machine, police reported.
A hotel employee contacted Eureka Police about the incident, which happened between about 4 a.m. Feb. 19 and 8:30 a.m. Feb. 20, after discovering the door to an employees-only storage room had been broken into and a coin machine hanging on the wall had been pried open and a money tray was missing from it. A detergent dispenser in a laundry room available to guests also had been damaged, the report said.
An estimated $200 in cash was stolen from the coin machine, and the damage to the machine was estimated at about $1,400. There was an estimated $500 worth of damage to the door and door frame of the storage room, and $200 in damage to the drywall behind the coin machine, according to the report.
There also was about $100 in damage to the detergent dispenser in the laundry room. That machine had not been broken into, so no money was missing from it, the report said.
A door at the southeast corner of the hotel, which could only be accessed with a key card, was found open, according to the report.
As of March 1, none of the stolen money had been recovered and there were no suspects, Capt. David Wilson said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
