Eureka Police have identified a 46-year-old Edwardsville, Ill., woman as a person of interest after items were stolen from a Towne Square Condominium resident. The woman was hired to clean the alleged victim’s apartment, police said.

A 37-year-old Eureka woman told police she had hired the woman through a mobile app. She said the woman came to her home at about 9:30 a.m. Sept. 19 and was told she could throw away things that were expired or appeared to be trash, the report said.

The victim said the woman had filled three white garbage bags with items and asked where the complex’s dumpster was located. The victim said she showed the woman where the dumpsters were, and when the woman was throwing the bags in the dumpster, the victim thought she saw her Nike shoes in one of the bags, according to the report.

After the woman who cleaned the apartment left, the victim went to the dumpster and got the bag she saw her shoes in out of the dumpster. She said there were two pairs of Nike shoes and $115 in the garbage bag, the report said.

The victim said the shoes were still in good condition, and the money had been in a table next to her bed, according to the report.

The victim told investigators, after she collected her belongings from one of the trash bags, the woman who had cleaned the apartment drove a red 2008 Pontiac Torrent and stopped next to the dumpster. The woman got out of the SUV, took two white trash bags from the dumpster and drove way, the report said.

The victim said when she looked around her department, she discovered medication, jewelry, a dress and a Louis Vuitton wallet were missing. The items were worth approximately $1,525, according to the report.

As of Oct. 4, the woman who cleaned the apartment had not been arrested, but the Eureka Police are seeking charges against her through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony stealing, Capt. Michael Werges said.
