A child was treated for smoke inhalation Monday evening (Oct. 12) after a small fire at a mobile home, 6749 Big Creek Drive, in Byrnes Mill.
“The fire was actually out when we got there, but it smoked up the house pretty good,” said Fire Chief Mike Arnhart of the High Ridge Fire Protection District. “One child was treated for smoke inhalation but was not transported (to a medical facility).”
The call about the fire was dispatched at 8:07 p.m., and Byrnes Mill Police were the first on the scene, said Byrnes Mill Police Chief Gary Dougherty.
The fire started when a candle fell over, Arnhart said.
There was no damage to the mobile home’s structure, he said.
“There was quite a bit of smoke. They (firefighters) ventilated the structure and cleared it out,” Arnhart said.
The family was able to return to their home, he said.
North Jefferson Ambulance District assisted with the call.
The American Red Cross provided the family of five – two adults and three children – with emergency food and clothing on Tuesday.
