Scales of justice

Michael E. Bailey, 24, of Cedar Hill has been sentenced to seven years following assault charges and a probation violation, according to court documents.

On July 27, 2013, Bailey bit a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, the report said.

Bailey pleaded guilty to the charge and on Feb. 13, he was sentenced by Jefferson County Div. 2 Circuit Judge Gary P. Kramer to seven years for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Also that day, Kramer sentenced Bailey to three years on a previous assault charge in Jefferson County. In March 2011, Bailey punched and kicked a Valley Park man in the face and head, causing him “serious physical injury,” the report said.

After pleading guilty to assaulting the Valley Park man, Bailey was sentenced in January 2013 to three years in prison, but the sentence was suspended and he got five years’ probation.

However, Bailey violated his probation and the three-year term was executed. The seven-year and three-year terms, though, will be served concurrently.

In addition, Bailey may be released early if he successfully completes a 120-day treatment program, court records show.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Douglas Pribble handled the cases.

Bailey previously was convicted for possession of a controlled substance tied to a March 29, 2013, incident in St. Louis, according to court documents.

He currently is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.

Two other defendants, Joshua Mitchell, 22, and Zachary B. Mitchell, 23, both of St. Louis, also were convicted in connection with the March 2011 assault against the Valley Park man, the report said.

Joshua Mitchell got three years and currently is in the Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in St. Joseph.

Zachary Mitchell was sentenced to three years, but the sentence was suspended and he got five years’ probation, court documents indicate.
