A 33-year-old Cedar Hill man recently was arrested for allegedly passing counterfeit bills at two Cedar Hill businesses, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 12:10 p.m. June 25, the man allegedly went inside the MotoMart store in the 8400 block of Local Hillsboro Road in Cedar Hill and used a counterfeit $20 to make a purchase and then returned at 8:37 a.m. June 27 and used another counterfeit $20 to buy gas and other items, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Both bills had the same serial number, the report said.

During their investigation, deputies learned that the man previously had used an alleged counterfeit $20 with the same serial number to make a purchase at the Dollar General store in the 7000 block of Hwy. BB in Cedar Hill.

Deputies viewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed the man passing the counterfeit bills, and he was arrested on July 1, Arnhart said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Arnhart said.

The case is still under investigation, Arnhart said Thursday (July 3).

In addition, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating two other counterfeit cases.

At 6:37 a.m. June 30, a woman used a $20 bill to try to buy merchandise at the BP convenience store in the 100 block of Old Sugar Creek Road in Fenton, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The clerk questioned the woman about the bill, and she reportedly left the store.

On July 1, a manager at the same BP convenience store said he received two counterfeit $5 bills but did not know exactly when they were used or who used them, the report said.

The store manager told deputies he received a counterfeit $100 the month before and kept it to show his employees.

Arnhart said he doesn’t know if the two Fenton cases are related to the Cedar Hill ones.

He asks anyone with information about the incidents to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
