Eureka Police patch

Eureka Police are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from a van parked in a commuter lot at Fourth Street and Hwy. 109. The theft occurred between 7:30 a.m. and noon June 12, police reported.

The converter was cut off a 2007 Toyota Sienna, which is owned by a 68-year-old St. Louis man. The number of catalytic converter thefts has decreased in recent years, Sgt. Michael Tapp said.

“They (the converter thefts) used to happen all the time,” Tapp said. “They are a lot less now.”

Tapp said June 19 that Eureka Police had not received other recent reports of stolen converters, and neither had surrounding departments.

He said the converter had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, as of June 19. Anyone with information about the theft should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
