The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a catalytic converter off a Sunrise R-9 School District bus. The culprit apparently cut a fence that surrounds the Sunrise Elementary School’s bus garage, 4485 Sunrise School Road, south of De Soto to get to the bus, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The converter was stolen between Nov. 14 and Dec. 1. It was valued at about $4,500, and the damage to the fence was estimated at about $1,000, the report said.

As of Dec. 14, the converter had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
