Pevely Police patch

Pevely Police found a stolen car on a Pevely apartment complex parking lot on June 12. The car, a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, had been reported stolen several weeks earlier in Affton, Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks said.

He said an officer on patrol noticed the red sports car was left unattended over a period of time at the Pevely Pointe Apartments.

“It had been reported stolen to the St. Louis County Police on May 16,” Weeks said. “Our officer noticed it had been parked in the same spot for a while and it had not been driven. The windows were down.”

Upon closer investigation, it became obvious someone tampered with the vehicle, Weeks said.

“The officer looked in the vehicle and saw ignition wires were exposed and the ignition had been tampered with. He ran the VIN (vehicle identification number). We had the vehicle towed and notified the St. Louis County Police.”

The victim was notified on June 12 that her vehicle had been recovered, St. Louis Police Sgt. Shawn McGuire said, although he did not know today (June 14) if she had reclaimed it.

McGuire said the victim had told police that the car was taken from the driveway of her home in the 4300 block of Grasso Avenue in Affton.
