Police are seeking a man who allegedly stole a car from a Eureka auto repair business. The car was recovered 11 days later in Arnold, Lt. Michael Werges said.

Officers were called at about 5:45 a.m. Aug. 11 to Selbert’s Auto Body, 410 W. Fourth St., when the owner discovered a key lock box outside the business was pried open. Video surveillance showed a man wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and a surgical mask using what looked like a crowbar to force open the box, the report said.

The man appeared to use some of the keys from the lockbox to open vehicles at the business. He allegedly used one of the keys to open and then steal a 2002 Toyota Camry, which was seen leaving the business and heading east on Fourth Street toward Central Avenue, according to the report.

Eleven days after that, Arnold Police officers found the Camry parked outside the Drury Inn, 3800 Hwy. 141. The car was in operating condition and was towed away so it could be returned to its owner, Eureka Police said.

As of Aug. 26, police were still trying to identify the man seen in the surveillance video, Werges said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
