A husband and wife were awoken early May 23 when a car driven by an 18-year-old Eureka man crashed into the roof of their master bathroom.
Four people were in the house at the time, but no one was injured, said Scott Barthelmass, the Eureka Fire Protection District’s public information officer.
Firefighters were dispatched at 1:47 a.m. to the couple’s home in the 600 block of Thorntree Lane, which is inside the Legend’s subdivision, Barthelmass said.
The 18-year-old was driving a 2018 white Chevrolet Malibu west on the Legends Parkway and lost control of the car, which went down an embankment, hit two trees and a metal fence, and become airborne before landing on the roof of the house on Thorntree Lane, Eureka Police Lt. Michael Werges said.
Barthelmass said the car flipped end over end before landing on the roof, about 10 feet from where the husband and wife were sleeping in their bed.
He also said the driver and a passenger in the car – an 18-year-old man – were not injured and were able to get out of the car themselves.
Barthelmass said both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts, and the airbags deployed.
On Monday (May 24), Werges said the investigation was ongoing and there was a possibility charges could be sought.
He said authorities are trying to find out where the driver and passenger were before the accident.
Werges also said no alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
He said fire crews arrived on the scene at 1:51 a.m. and left at 5:13 a.m.
