A 40-year-old Jefferson County man recently was arrested after bystanders reportedly witnessed him assaulting a woman and then chased him and beat him before police arrived on the scene, Arnold Police Capt. Robert Ruckman said.
At 3:28 p.m. July 12, the man allegedly pulled over his vehicle on the shoulder of southbound I-55 at Church Road, assaulted the woman, pushed her out of the vehicle and fled, Arnold Police reported.
The woman was not seriously injured, Ruckman said.
Bystanders witnessed the alleged assault and chased the suspect to the Texas Roadhouse parking lot in the Arnold Commons development and beat him, Ruckman said.
Shortly after Arnold Police got a report about the assault along the highway, they got a call about a fight at Texas Roadhouse, but by the time officers arrived, the bystanders who allegedly beat the suspect were gone, Ruckman said.
The man was issued summonses at the scene for third-degree assault, lying about his identity and driving while revoked and then turned over to Rock Township Ambulance personnel, who transported him to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County for treatment of his injuries, Ruckman said.
The suspect did not cooperate with the police investigation into the bystanders who beat him, so there were no suspects or arrests regarding that, Ruckman said.
