A 26-year-old Byrnes Mill woman was arrested after she allegedly drove away from an accident on I-55 near Hwy. 141 in Arnold that forced a pickup off the road and left a man injured, Arnold Police reported.
The woman was driving a 2005 Honda Accord south on I-55 at 3:36 p.m. Feb. 22, and while attempting to pass a 2014 Ford F-150, she lost control of the Honda. The car hit the front driver’s side of the pickup, the report said.
The pickup ran off the side of the road and into a ditch, where it struck large rocks. A 55-year-old Wimberly, Texas, man who was driving the pickup was injured, but he refused to be transported to a hospital. He had been wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
The Honda also went off the road and hit a sign. However, the woman was able to get the car back on the road, and she allegedly drove away, headed south, the report said.
Someone who allegedly saw the woman remove the license plates from the Accord flagged down a police officer, and he stopped the car in the 3900 block of Vogel Road. The woman already was wanted in O’Fallon and St. Peters on outstanding warrants, the report said.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Arnold Police Station, where she was booked and held for one of the other law enforcement agencies. Arnold Police will seek a charge against the woman through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony leaving the scene of an accident, Shular said.
The pickup was damaged and had to be towed from the scene. However, Arnold Police had no estimate for the damage, Capt. Rich Shular said.
