A brush fire damaged 2 acres of land, a chicken coop and a lawn mower in the 12000 block of Dude Lane east of Fletcher last week. No other property was damaged, no injuries were reported and the chickens lived, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.
The De Soto Rural Fire Protection District got a call at 4:08 p.m. Feb. 7 about the fire. Firefighters arrived and kept the blaze from spreading to a garage and a house, Fitzgerald said
He said firefighters remained on the scene for an hour and a half. The Hillsboro, Cedar Hill, and St. Clair fire protection districts and the De Soto Fire Department assisted at the scene while the Jefferson R-7, Hematite and Mapaville fire protection districts and Valle Ambulance District were moved up to help with other calls.
