Eureka Police seek help to identify vehicle break-in suspects

The Eureka Police had asked for help to identify aman who was seen in surveillance video April 30 in the Augustine Heights neighborhood, where vehicles were broken into early in the morning.

Two brothers have been charged for allegedly breaking into and stealing items from vehicles in Eureka and Webster Groves. The pair also are facing murder charges after police said they accidentally killed their accomplice during an attempted car break-in in St. Louis, court records show.

Darius Bostic, 21, and Derrick Bostic, 18, both of St. Louis, were charged Wednesday, June 11, in St. Louis County for allegedly breaking into at least 23 vehicles on April 30 in Eureka and Webster Groves. The brothers had already been charged with second-degree murder when a person they were allegedly breaking into vehicles with on May 2 in St. Louis was shot and killed, according to court documents.

The two were being held as of June 13 at the St. Louis Jail, court records show.

According to a probable-cause statement filed by Eureka Police, Darius and Derrick Bostic along with a teenager on April 30 allegedly broke into at least seven vehicles in the 400 and 500 blocks of Forest Run Drive. Police reported the group caused more than $750 in damage to vehicles and stole more than $750 worth of items.

Eureka Police were provided a surveillance video by one of the victims that showed someone approaching the front door of the home while holding what appeared to be a gun. The person in the video also had a backpack with a distinct graphic, the report said.

Webster Groves Police reported the brothers and the teen on April 30 allegedly broke into at least 16 vehicles at an apartment complex on Colonial Village Court and in the 600 block of Amelia Avenue and 300 block of Page Avenue after they left Eureka.

The three were allegedly seen in a surveillance video carrying what appeared to be guns, and one of the people in the video was allegedly seen with the same backpack that was in the surveillance video recorded in Eureka, according to Webster Groves Police’s report.

The Circuit Attorney of St. Louis charged Derrick Bostic on May 21 and Darius Bostic on May 23 for the shooting death of 16-year-old Aeyion Barnett. The Circuit Attorney also has charged Darius Bostic for allegedly stealing an SUV and fleeing from police on May 22 in St. Louis, court records said.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, the brothers and at least two teenagers were breaking into vehicles in the 6300 block of Vermont Ave, when a man came out of his home and fired a gun into the air in an attempt to scare the group away. Members of the group began shooting at the house the man came out of, and Barnett was shot and killed.

Derrick Bostic was arrested on May 21, and he allegedly admitted to driving the group to Eureka, Webster Groves and St. Louis to break into cars.

Darius Bostic was arrested on May 22 after he and two other people allegedly stole a woman’s Range Rover at gunpoint. Officers saw the SUV about two hours later and pursued the vehicle to the 2700 block of Henrietta Street, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

The police were able to spike the Range Rover’s tires, and Darius Bostic ran away. However, officers were able to catch and arrest him, the report said.

Darius Bostic allegedly was carrying a gun when St. Louis Police arrested him, and he also allegedly admitted to breaking into and stealing from vehicles in Eureka, Wester Grovers and St. Louis, according to the report.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Darius and Derrick Bostic each with four counts of stealing, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, and four counts of first-degree property damage, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison, according to court documents.

The Circuit Attorney of St. Louis has charged both brothers with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, both class A felonies punishable by 10 to 30 years or life in prison, and two counts of armed criminal action, an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of three to 15 years in prison, court records said.

The Circuit Attorney also charged Darius Bostic with unlawful possession of a weapon and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, both class D felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison, and two counts of resisting arrest, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison, court documents show.
