Eureka Police believe a 38-year-old Bourbon man stole $374.18 worth of items from the Walmart store, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive. The man was arrested the day after the alleged theft in Franklin County, police reported.
Officers were called at about 3:30 p.m. July 23 for shoplifting in progress. A store employee said the man had left the store without paying for items he had put in a cart, the report said.
The employee said the man was asked to show a receipt for the items, and he started waving around a receipt. However, when the employee looked at the receipt, the listed items didn’t match what was in the cart, according to the report.
The man then walked away, got into a tan Chevrolet Silverado and drove away. Officers tracked the pickup using Flock license-plate reading cameras, last seeing it in Franklin County, the report said.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the man on July 24. Eureka Police went to Franklin County, and an officer identified the man as the stealing suspect because he had a similar bat-wing tattoo and beard of the man seen in surveillance video at the store, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked. He allegedly told police he was not in the store the day before because he was working, but when he was told he matched the person seen in surveillance video, he requested a lawyer, the report said.
The man was then released with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged stealing, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
